Density capability meets functionality with the Centrix® System

Density capability meets functionality with the Centrix® System

A single, dual, or quad fiber management system that provides industry–leading, manageable high density that is configurable for multiple applications with SC, LC, or MTP® connectivity.

The Centrix system offers a range of features and benefits tailored to meet modern demands, proving high density connections and a variety of splice or preconnectorized options across different applications and environments. This system is built upon three essential components: cabinets, housings, and cassettes that are configurable in 19-inch racks.

In Data Centers or “Meet-Me-Rooms,” a cross-connect frame facilitates jumper connections between indoor/outdoor cable, distribution fiber/active electronics, and distribution fiber/access fiber. This frame also accommodates splicing on the frame with easy-to-use, high-capacity splice cassettes, while pre-stubbed housings simplify off-frame splicing installation. Additionally, a top-of-rack panel is utilized for port replication of active electronics, offering options with either patch panel cassettes or MTP/MPO cassettes.

In "Meet-Me-Rooms" specifically, another cross-connect frame is employed for managing multiple carrier connections. Access fiber can be spliced directly into the Centrix frame or spliced in from an Optical Splice Enclosure (OSE) using prestubbed housings. In space-constrained environments where physical footprint limitations are present, a high-density solution is essential to meet the demands efficiently.

In the Central Office environment, the core of every network, a cross connect frame manages jumper connections between indoor/outdoor cables, distribution fibers, and active electronics. It supports on-frame splicing with high-capacity splice cassettes and simplifies off-frame splicing with pre-stubbed housings. Additionally, a top of rack panel enables port replication of active electronics using either patch panel cassettes or MTP/MPO cassettes, ensuring an organized and scalable infrastructure.

Centrix® FAQs

  • What are some of the key differences between a standard Centrix frame and the Centrix Secure Cabinet?

Both the Centrix Secure cabinet and the standard Centrix frame offer unique advantages designed to meet varying customer needs. The Centrix Secure cabinet has enhanced security features: segmented cable entry points at the top of the cabinet that lead to lockable 4U housings. This design allows colocation operators to lease each housing to different service providers, ensuring separation and security within the Meet-Me-Room Space. On the other hand, the standard Centrix Cabinet, which does not have individually locked housings, is ideally suited for central office environments where rack space is not shared with other providers.

  • How can the Centrix system be configured to support different connectivity applications?

The Centrix system is a product family consisting of different frame styles and universal housings/cassettes to enable operators to build a high-density optical distribution frame system in a MMR environment.  Operators can splice OSP or ISP fiber cable directly into frame via pigtailed cassettes that are populated with either LC, or SC connectors.  Alternatively, the Centrix housings may be populated with Patch cassettes, Splitter cassettes, or MTP breakout cassettes.  The modular design and the breadth of connectivity options makes Centrix a compelling platform for MTDC operators.

  • What is the capacity of the Centrix system housing?

    Centrix housings come in 1U, 2U, and 4U sizes. Using 36 port LC cassettes, the maximum capacity is 1U: 108 LC, 2U: 216 LC, 4U: 432 L

  • Why should I use the Centrix system cabinet?

For applications or environments that require a high density enclosed secure optical distribution frame, the fully enclosed Centrix cabinet is a compelling choice. The frame design provides optimized routing paths for jumpers, reducing the risk of pileup or entanglement. A single jumper length for an in-frame, cross-connect network design reduces jumper inventory. The Centrix System is available with both rear or front cable access. Front cable access allows back-to-back frame configurations or mounting against a wall. Both frame configurations save space through increased port density.

However, for applications sharing both low and high density splicing within the same meet me room, it is possible to utilize Centrix housings and cassettes within a standard 19” frame.

  • What are the applications for this type of cabinet?

The Centrix cabinet, as well as other Centrix frame can be configured to support fiber interconnect and fiber cross-connect applications.

  • What are the features and benefits of the Centrix system?

On frame splicing, large variety of cassettes, Support for SC, LC, and MTP connectivity, modular frame/housings.

  • Can I combine the Centrix system with other hardware?

With appropriate mounting hardware, Centrix housings can be installed into industry standard 19” or 23” frames.
