See the Light® Design and Installation Courses

Industry-Recognized, Hands-On Training

We’ve developed a comprehensive training program to meet the needs of fiber optic contractors, installers, designers, and end users. Courses include hands-on installation and design classes for data centers (DCs) and local area networks (LANs) designed to be more comprehensive than our seminar offerings. Topics include installation, testing, troubleshooting, design, and documentation for LAN solutions. Our See the Light® courses may be required for some industry certifications and carry industry-recognized continuing education credits.

Course Descriptions

Instructors bring real-world experience and applications to the training sessions. Course materials are updated regularly to ensure the products and solutions are relevant to current work environments and industry trends. Upon completion, students receive a certificate for the course and are eligible for third-party industry continuing education credits. Course material is recognized by BICSI, ETA, FOA, and other industry organizations. The course also establishes the foundation needed to prepare for industry standards tests. These courses are an excellent resource for instructors, installers, contractors, designers, and others looking to continue their education.

Please use the descriptions below as a general guide when selecting topics. We offer classes at our Corning locations as well as other regional locations. Some topics may not be available in all locations due to equipment or instructor constraints. Please regularly check for updates or email the See the Light training team at STLinfo@corning.com for more information.

Corning Fiber Installation (CFI)

This three-day hands-on course prepares students for all aspects of fiber optic cable installation in a local area network environment. Both multimode and single-mode fiber types are covered. Cable placement, fusion and mechanical splicing, cable termination (connector installation and pigtail splicing), and acceptance testing are taught with extensive hands-on practice. Students will build, test, and troubleshoot complete single-mode and multimode systems in this class. Also covered is the use of equipment, hardware, and procedures pertaining to building distribution and campus applications.

Lunch will be provided each day. Students will be provided resource materials and any tools and consumables needed to complete hands-on classroom exercises.

Virtual Corning Fiber Installation (CFI)

This condensed, live virtual course is instructor-led with interactive presentation slides and prepares attendees for several aspects of fiber optic cable installation in an Enterprise Network environment. Attendees are encouraged to engage during knowledge checkpoints and Q&A discussions. Following the live virtual sessions, cable placement, splicing, termination (Connector installation and pigtail splicing) and acceptance testing are taught with pre-recorded video demonstrations via self-directed learning. Also covered is the use of equipment, hardware and procedures pertaining to building distribution, campus, and data center applications.

Corning Fiber Testing & Troubleshooting (CFTT)

This two-day hands-on course prepares the students for optical fiber network acceptance testing. Students will have extensive hands-on training using a Light Source and Power Meter (LSPM) as well as an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR). The course is loaded with practical exercises to prepare the craftsperson for the day-to-day requirements of testing and troubleshooting fiber optic network systems. The hands-on training is designed for those who desire advanced testing skills and knowledge. This course will equip the installers with the skills required to perform detailed link loss testing by practicing on simulated fiber optic systems using the LSPM and OTDR.

Lunch will be provided each day. Students will be provided resource materials and any tools and consumables needed to complete hands-on classroom exercises.
