Whilst long-haul networks typically span distances that cover entire regions or countries, Metropolitan (Metro) networks connect several points of presence (POPs) in a ring for a defined area, around a city or a smaller region. Density is a key criterion when you choose a cable for a Metro network as well as the compatibility with existing networks and ease of connectivity.
Typically, a Metro network goes up to 400 fibers that must fit have a thin outer diameter as many ducts are saturated with existing networks.
