The FRECAP 2 earns honour from iF International Forum Design, one of the oldest independent design institutions in the world.

UK – Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW), one of the world’s leading innovators  materials science and optical communications solutions, announced today that it has been honoured with the prestigious iF DESIGN AWARD 2025 for its FRECAP 2 Closure. The globally renowned award is a seal of quality for outstanding design and innovation, awarded by iF International Forum Design GmbH, one of the oldest independent design institutions in the world. The award will officially be presented during the iF Design Award Night on April 28 in Berlin.

The FRECAP 2, a Corning Optical Communications innovation, earned the award in the Product Design discipline within the Telecommunications category. The distinction places Corning at the top of the competition among nearly 11,000 submissions from 66 countries, which further underscores the competitive nature of the award.

“Receiving the iF Design Award for the FRECAP 2 is a valued endorsement of our continuous commitment to designing cutting-edge fibre optic solutions that are easy to install, denser, and cost-efficient,” said Kevin Parker, Senior Vice President and General Manager, OCS, Corning Optical Communications.

Corning’s next-generation fibre dome closure FRECAP 2 is designed to meet the evolving needs of network operators, offering enhanced fibre protection, rapid deployment, and long-term reliability. With its advanced sealing technology, high durability, and streamlined installation process, the solution helps ensure high-performance connectivity in challenging environments. By simplifying maintenance and reducing installation time, the FRECAP 2 also supports network efficiency and lowers total cost of ownership.

The innovative product offers versatility for a wide range of loose tube, ribbon, and flexible ribbon cables, as well as microducts, and it pairs well with ALTOS™ loose tube cables, Corning’s MiniXtend® cable solutions, and the next generation of high-density fibre optic cables utilising Corning’s SMF-28® Contour fibre.

The FRECAP 2 is part of Corning’s broader portfolio of fibre optic closure solutions, designed to enable seamless expansion and adaptability in fibre networks. With a modular approach to network growth, Corning continues to push the boundaries of innovation in optical communications.
