To document his dangerous descent into China’s deep, dark Jade Dragon cave and the exploration of this rough, mysterious and cavernous environment, Kyle Johnson put his trust in the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, featuring tough Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4.

With a population of 30 million, Chongqing, China is a sight to see. But what lies beneath its terrain is truly spectacular. Countless caves —some of the deepest in the world. These natural wonders have captured the imagination and tested the endurance of those adventurous enough make the climbs, descend by rope and face the darkness and beauty within.

Kyle is a renowned and respected adventure traveler and travel television host/producer. He is certainly no stranger to taking risks and venturing where few have gone before. Surprisingly, like many of us, Kyle has a fear of heights. But, unlike many of us, he faced his fear, tested his limits and embraced the courage necessary to explore the technical Jade Dragon cave, riddled with long, vertical descents.

Throughout the entire exploration, the one constant was “tough.” Tough and tricky terrain. Tough and experienced guides from the Chongqing Cave Exploration team. Tough and tested climbing equipment. And, of course, the tough and powerful Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, featuring damage-resistant Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4.

As this was Kyle’s first caving exploration journey, it was imperative that he first mastered proper climbing and descending techniques under the instruction of the Chongqing Cave Exploration team.

To get even further down in to the cave, Kyle and the team started their descent through this tiny opening in the rocky, rugged surface.

Once through the opening, Kyle and the team descended 80 feet (24 meters) deeper into the dark, enormous and ornate caverns within the Jade Dragon cave.

Geology

While the exploration of the Jade Dragon cave was full of uncertainty, bearing witness to the towering, magnificent stalactites and stalagmites was never in doubt.

Cave Flower

A stunning sight within the Jade Dragon are what scientists call “the priceless Anthodites.” This geological wonder is also referred to as the Cave Flower.
