CORNING, NY — Corning Incorporated today announced the release of its 2021 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Report, Sustainability Report, and Annual Report, highlighting its purposeful approach and progress to sustainability and DE&I initiatives. Corning’s scientific and manufacturing expertise is vital to the development of its breakthrough products that transform industries and enhance lives.

“We agree with the increasingly pervasive notion that to prosper over time, every company must not only deliver financial performance, but also show how it makes a positive contribution to society,” said Wendell P. Weeks, chairman and chief executive officer. “This idea resonates with our purpose, our long view, our meaningful inventions, and our global community of diverse stakeholders. Corning remains fully committed to advancing our diversity, equity, and inclusion journey. Every day, we strive to learn, grow, and do better. It’s vital to our businesses, our people, and our communities.”

The dedication and contributions of Corning’s people are critical to its ability to create long-term value. Building on that deep commitment, the company announced it has achieved 100% gender pay equity in its global salaried workforce – a significant corporatewide milestone that builds upon its prior success of achieving 100% gender pay equity in the seven largest countries in which it operates.

“We are leading our people, businesses, and communities to an intuitive DE&I mindset. This is not just the right thing for us to do – it is also fundamental to our progress as a company,” said Dana Moss, vice president and chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion officer. “Corning is committed to acting as a champion and leader in this space, while continually striving to be a better version of ourselves.”

Corning is also focused on improving the environmental impacts of its business. To help responsibly navigate the global energy transition in the years ahead, the company is committed to lowering its greenhouse gas emissions, increasing its use of renewable electricity, and integrating sustainability into its innovation process.

"Our commitment to sustainability at Corning has never been stronger, and I am excited both by the progress we’ve made and the progress ahead,” said Mark Steen, Ph.D., vice president of Sustainability and Climate Initiatives. “We believe that how we do things is as important as what we accomplish – and we incorporate that philosophy across our businesses. We continually work to improve the sustainability of our own actions – whether through equitable pay, community involvement, or improved processes. Because of our expertise in materials science, we also get to invent products that will contribute to much larger improvements in sustainability, not just for our own company, but for the world."

Report Highlights:

  • Achieving global pay equity and expanding diverse hiring: Corning achieved 100% gender pay equity globally for salaried employees. The company continues to heighten its emphasis on diverse hiring, robust candidate slates, and talent planning.
  • Empowering the next generation of diverse innovators: Corning’s Office of Racial Equality and Social Unity began a five-year, $5.5 million partnership with the nation’s largest historically Black university, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, to prepare students for STEM careers.

The company established a center of excellence and dedicated sustainability leads in each of its Market-Access Platforms to focus on setting and attaining environmental sustainability and climate goals.
  • Integrating sustainability into its products and innovation process: Corning’s innovations, including Corning® EDGE Rapid Connect Solutions, Corning® ColdForm Technology, gasoline particulate filters, Ribbon Ceramic materials, and solar technologies have the power to both drive growth and benefit the environment.
