Corning and AUO Collaborate to Meet Evolving Consumer Demand for Cutting-Edge, Curved Automotive Display Modules

Taipei, Taiwan | Corning Incorporated | October 23, 2023

Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced a new collaboration with AUO Corporation, a leading provider of automotive displays, to expand and accelerate the production of AUO’s industry-leading, large-format curved display modules using Corning® ColdForm™ Technology.

Corning® ColdForm™ Technology enables cover glass for automotive displays to be shaped at room temperature, a process that is more cost effective and energy efficient than conventional, energy-intensive hot forming. With the collaboration, AUO will be able to broaden its offerings for automakers with large displays that are both stylish and easy to integrate.

“Collaborations like this one with AUO allow our glass technologies to meet changing needs as the world’s most innovative automakers design displays that are larger, curved, and seamlessly integrated into the cockpit,” said Mike Kunigonis, vice president and general manager, Corning Automotive Glass Solutions.

Global automakers are looking to exceed consumer expectations with new and immersive driving experiences, including curved displays that stretch seamlessly across instrument panels while providing critical information to drivers.

“AUO is dedicated to advancing our range of car display solutions. Working with Corning, we are continually strengthening our portfolio of technologies ranging from high-resolution, low-reflectivity displays to curved display module designs,” said Simon Hsu, Associate Vice President of Mobility Solution Business Unit, AUO Corporation, AUO Corporation. “That’s why we have chosen Corning’s innovative ColdForm™ Technology, which allows us to advance our sustainable practices while offering customers differentiated designs.”

As verified by an independent lifecycle assessment, Corning® ColdForm™ Technology can reduce global-warming potential by up to 25% compared to traditional hot-forming techniques.

“Our cover glass and manufacturing process innovations were engineered for curved display modules, benefiting leading companies like AUO by enabling them to offer their automotive customers superior optical, cosmetic, and mechanical performance – all while delivering a sustainable and economic solution,” said Kunigonis.
