Premium Fetal Bovine Serum FBS AUS and NZ

Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) is one of the most variable and risk‑sensitive raw materials in cell culture. While many organizations default to US-origin FBS, this preference is often based on history or comfort rather than objective differences in performance or safety.

Premium grade FBS is exclusively collected from government-inspected abattoirs in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand and derived from healthy bovine cows and heifers that have passed ante- and post-mortem inspection. These countries are recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) as having a negligible risk of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) and being free from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

When properly collected, processed, and qualified, Australian-origin and New Zealand-origin FBS deliver equivalent biological performance and comparable regulatory risk profiles to US-origin FBS for most applications, while offering meaningful supply chain and risk‑diversification advantages.

Country of origin alone does not determine FBS quality, safety, or performance. Processing controls, testing, and lot qualification matter more. Meanwhile, cycles in Fetal Bovine Serum supply and demand are normal and can differ across origin countries, impacting availability. We encourage our FBS customers to consider their options.

Due to supply contstraints in the current market, Corning encourages customers to consider whether Fetal Bovine Serum originating in Australia or New Zealand will meet your needs.

Looking for Regular Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS)?

In addition to Premium FBS, Corning also offers Regular FBS. Regular FBS is derived from government inspected abattoirs from countries that are USDA safety tested for import into the United States. Most countries are recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) as having a negligible risk of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) and being free from foot and mouth disease (FMD).
