Women of Color in STEM and Black Engineer of the Year lauded in special ceremony

Corning's technology community recognized the 2022 Women of Color in STEM and Black Engineer of the Year award winners during a recognition event at the company's Sullivan Park Research Center. In their tenure with Corning, each winner has made a significant impact in the company's innovation programs and technical processes.

Corning has participated in the Women of Color in STEM awards for 20 years. Since then, nearly 90 Corning employees have garnered this distinction. Winners in both award categories have had the opportunity to attend an awards ceremony and conference for professional development, networking, and recruiting.

Women of Color Awards

The annual Women of Color ceremony took place in Detroit, Michigan and is sponsored by the Career Communications Group, Inc. More than 1,000 Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) advocates participate in this annual event and conference. The ultimate objective of the event is to promote women in STEM who have made significant technical contributions while often overcoming obstacles.

Dr. Mark Vaughn, manager for technical talent pipelining and lead for Corning's Office of STEM, described the Corning women who received the 2022 Women of color honors as, "inspirational."

“The goal of the Women of Color in STEM Awards has continued to be as relevant as ever: Honoring women who have made wonderfully significant contributions to STEM, often while overcoming Himalayan obstacles in the process.”
