Guiding the Way to a Brighter Tomorrow

How Corning Iris™ Glass is reshaping the monitor industry

When looking to the future of sleek displays, Dell is leading the way with their Ultrathin line of monitors featuring Corning Iris™ Glass light-guide plates.

The cutting edge design is remarkably thin from every angle with its thinnest profile at 5.5mm thanks to Corning’s light guide plate technology.  Not only that, with peak brightness of up to 600 nits, the Dell 27 USB-C Ultrathin Monitor (S2719DC) is  the world’s brightest ultrathin monitors in its class.*

Designing displays that are this slim and bright requires a crystal-clear material that can withstand heat and humidity. High purity glass substrates –like Iris Glass—have zero moisture expansion and 90% lower thermal expansion than incumbent plastic materials, making them the ideal light-guide plate for edge-lit LCD monitors. A light-guide plate is used in these types of displays to evenly distribute light and deliver a crisp, brilliant image. Iris Glass enables bright colors due to excellent transmission and minimal color shift, resulting in clear, beautiful pictures with realistic images.

Additionally, by using a glass light-guide plate, set makers are able to cut down on air gaps and extra materials needed to accommodate the mechanical properties of plastic, allowing for more innovative design concepts and form factors. The tighter gaps also enable ultra-thin bezels for nearly edge-to-edge viewing experiences.

Consumers are looking for thinner, brighter displays, and Corning and Dell have collaborated to deliver the most beautifully-designed monitors in the industry today.
