ERP Update: Product Descriptions

Corning is transitioning to a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, the technology platform on which we transact business. We are upgrading our ERP to enhance our business operations, standardize our business processes, and improve our data – allowing us to better serve you.

The transition will begin with our Discovery Labware (DL) products on May 1 and last several years. To meet the requirements of this new system, some product descriptions will be changing. To start, these updated descriptions will appear only on transaction documents like order confirmations, order updates, shipping notices, invoices, etc. Click here to see examples of some SAP transaction documents.

Product descriptions on product labels, packaging, certificates, and our website are NOT changing, nor are product catalog numbers.

Below is list of product catalog numbers and their associated updated product descriptions.

Also, for dealers who currently receive an open/shipped order report each Monday, you will now receive two open/shipped order reports instead of one. The second report will be for the Discovery Labware orders as they will no longer appear in the existing report. 

On the Discovery Labware report, when an item is not available on the requested ship date, the report will show a line with allocated quantity of zero being available to ship on that date, in addition to line(s) showing the expected ship date. Click here to see an example.

During the transition period, April 25 through May 1, 2023:

  • Shipping will not take place on Thursday, April 27 or Friday, April 28.  We will resume shipping on Monday, May 1.
  • Online ordering for Discovery Labware products will be temporarily disabled from Tuesday, April 25 at 5:00 pm EST on through Sunday, April 30.  Online ordering will resume Monday, May 1.  You may order Discovery Labware products via Customer Service at during this time if necessary. Online ordering for other products will not be impacted.
  • Credit card orders for Discovery Labware products will not be available from Tuesday, April 25 at 5:00 pm EST through Sunday, April 30. Please plan accordingly.
