Laser Optics

Corning offers durable crystal components ideal for high-powered laser optics applications

Whether for lithography, vision correction, or industrial applications, excimer laser performance is dependent on fluoride crystal quality and durability.

Corning uses specialized fluoride crystal growth processes developed over more than 50 years to maximize radiation durability of fluoride crystal materials. For the harshest laser exposure levels, or where maximizing optic lifetime and equipment uptime are critical, Corning® Calcium Fluoride (CaF2) and Corning® Magnesium Fluoride (MgF2) are the materials of choice.

Our rigorous manufacturing process enables us to produce high-quality components that meet or exceed specification. Every component is tested using state-of-the-art interferometers and optical profilers. Our coatings are designed to ensure optimum performance and durability. Cutting-edge technology for finishing and coating is available for maximizing optic lifetime for highly transmissive, highly reflective, or partially reflective optics.

Magnesium Fluoride (MgF2)

MgF2

Magnesium Fluoride is a durable crystal with low absorption, suitable for high-powered laser, space, and other UV applications. MgF2 is also naturally birefringent, making it an ideal material for use where this property can be exploited, such as retardation plates and polarizing elements, particularly in the wavelength range from 0.13-0.30 µm.

Calcium Fluoride (CaF2)

CaF2

Calcium Fluoride is uniquely suited for demanding optical applications from deep ultraviolet through the infrared. Being physically stable and chemically inert with superior hardness, CaF2 is the material of choice for microlithography and laser optics applications.
