Supervisor, Plant Services & Security – Fleet Manager

The first time I got in contact with Corning (at that time it was “RXS Kabelgarnituren”) was in 1992 through my former employer, a service provider for security. As part of my work there, I regularly worked at Corning in the security area and was already able to meet many employees at the Hagen location and make my first contacts.

In May of 1997, I was hired as a plant operator at Corning. Here, I had the opportunity to get insight into various industrial areas. I was primarily used in the field of BEAM (electron accelerator/shrinking department), but also supported in the areas of production/molding, machines, and cabinet construction if required. In addition, I also took over individual shifts of the security service.

Due to the different areas of application and the security activities, I was able to build up an inter-divisional network, which today benefits me in many situations. I've always enjoyed supporting in critical situations and offering my help where my skills were of use. Conversely, I also receive support when I need it.

As a result, I gained the trust of my superiors and received a lot of support and encouragement in my personal development. As part of my industrial employment, I was able to get to know different areas and work together with many different colleagues.

When my former department was closed in 2012/2013, I was offered the job as fleet manager/supervisor in plant services & security. Until then, I never wanted to work at a desk and could not imagine ever doing an "office job." Here, though, I got the chance to professionally build up the fleet management for Corning Optical Communications throughout Germany. I attended courses and became a Certified Fleet Manager. In my new job, I implemented legal regulations and took over the fleet management for all German locations. I also took the lead role in services & security, where I hold current responsibility for two more employees.

In my role, I have a lot of creative freedom in the organization of my work. The tasks are very versatile and every day is different. My supervisors place great trust in me and I make every effort to earn that trust.

In March 2018, I was elected to the works council by the workforce. Now, I have the opportunity in the works council to represent the interests of my colleagues.

Corning offers employees the opportunity to actively shape their career path and evolve. After working for many years in the industrial sector, I switched to an office job where I can organize myself and use my skills in a variety of ways. I deal with different colleagues every day and it never gets boring.
