Tool Mechanic

In April of 2015, I started working for Corning as a tool mechanic in the tool shop department at the Hagen Plant. My team was very open-minded and immediately accepted me as a full member of the team.

During my first weeks at Corning, there was a lot of work, which is why I worked overtime – that was self-evident and familiar to me from other companies. While my former employers accepted this as a matter of course, here at Corning I experienced an extraordinarily high level of appreciation. The plant operations manager came personally to my workplace and thanked me for my engagement with a handshake. That was a moment that has remained in my memory until today. Corning appreciates its employees, whether commercial or employed, to a very high degree and pays tribute to their personal commitment. As I worked longer, more and more tasks and responsibilities were transferred to me. Only six months after my start at Corning, I was allowed to take over the vacation and illness cover for my supervisor.

Over the years, I have made contacts both within the different production areas and in other departments and thus have been able to establish a large network. Every year, I organize the participation in the "AOK Firmenlauf" and form a running group with all interested colleagues. I also support the area of EHS (environmental, health, and safety) in various projects and cooperations regarding the health promotion of employees. I have already attended several seminars on this and have trained as a fire protection assistant.

Corning enables me to develop myself both professionally and personally. Having already been able to attend a number of courses both in my field of activity and in the EHS area, I am now beginning my training as an industrial technician for mechanical engineering. By fostering ongoing development, Corning gives me the opportunity to develop myself and continually improve my strengths and abilities.

All these aspects make Corning an employer I enjoy working for. Above all I appreciate the high recognition that Corning shows to its employees, the versatility of the tasks and applications, and the possibility for continuous development.
