Incredibly Tough - Ambre Hammond

Staying in tune

Staying in tune

With a portable piano, her Xperia XZ1, and an open heart, Ambre Hammond traveled to Tanzania, giving free concerts to underprivileged children, making memories, providing inspiration and creating moments of joy.

As someone who has performed on the world‘s greatest stages, Ambre Hammond much prefers plugging in and playing her music in the remote confines of tiny schools and orphanages, bringing wide smiles and intrigue to children living in impoverished towns and villages.

Firsthand, Ambre knows that age is no barrier to having a dream and fulfilling it. She started with the piano at age 3. By age 5 she was giving public concerts. At age 11, Ambre achieved a World Record receiving the Associate and Licentiate Diplomas of music. At age 16, she earned the First Prize in an International Music Competition held in Argentina, South America. Her connection with children, and child’s desire to create, runs deep. It’s exactly why she started her “Girl Piano Truck” program — putting a piano in the back of a truck, traveling to remote parts of the world, giving free concerts in schools and orphanages. Since 2013, Ambre has taken her project to India, Thailand, East Timor, Belarus and the Philippines. On the final evening of her travels through Tanzania, Ambre summed it up best, “Tonight showed a true moment of joy, when despite life’s day to day struggles...music seemed to provide a sparkling glimmer of hope and joy to children who otherwise have little or no hope. I can't wipe this stupid smile off my face. My cheeks hurt!”
