Joan Minard

Field Application Specialist, EMEA

Corning Life Sciences

Joan received his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, in 2019. Since, he has worked in the UK focusing on bioprocess development and scale-up, first at UCB as a Scientist in upstream process sciences, being a Pilot Plant manager with focus on the process development (mammalian and microbial) for the production of antibody and antibody-derived molecules; then, at Nonacus Ltd as a Bioprocess Engineer in production for process optimization and scale-up of diagnostic kits for cancer detection with Next Generation Sequencing.

Joan joined Corning in 2024 as a Field Application Scientist (FAS) focusing on the bioprocess portfolio.

Selamawit Alemu

Research & Development Scientist I

StemVAC GmbH

Selamawit Alemu earned her M.Sc. degree in Radiation Biology from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2019. Following her graduation, she joined StemVAC’s research and development team in 2020, where she has been working as a research Scientist ever since.

At StemVAC, Selam specializes in oncolytic viral therapy, a cutting-edge area of cancer treatment that uses viruses to target and destroy cancer cells. She particularly focuses on assay and process development, encompassing areas such as small- and large-scale cell expansion, virus production, upstream and downstream virus purification and virus quantification assays advancing the efficacy and safety of oncolytic viral therapies. In addition to small-scale expansion, Selam has hands-on experience in the development and optimization of bioreactors for various stages of cell culture, including expansion, infection, and harvesting.
