CORNING, N.Y. | Corning Incorporated | 22. Mai 2013

Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) and Lightwave have kicked off the 10th anniversary of the FTTXcellence Award by opening nominations to honor an individual for leadership in the deployment of optical access networks in North America and Latin America. The award will be presented Sept. 30 at the 2013 FTTH Conference & Expo in Tampa, Fla.

“With the 10th anniversary of the FTTXcellence Award, we’re expanding nominations to include candidates from Latin America. The telecommunications industry is rapidly growing in this region, and there are interesting deployments to celebrate,” said Kim Hartwell, senior vice president and chief commercial officer for Corning Optical Communications. “Corning is enthusiastic about recognizing visionaries who are generating momentum toward the ultimate goal of bringing fiber to as many business and residential customers as possible.”

“Expanding the scope of the program to include Latin America makes the FTTXcellence Award more relevant than ever,” added Stephen Hardy, editorial director and associate publisher of Lightwave. “With nominations now coming from Latin America as well as North America and the Caribbean, this year’s honoree truly will exemplify the optical access innovation currently underway in the Americas.”

To be eligible for the award, candidates must be nominated by a peer. Nominees may include individuals at carriers and system operators, home developers, utilities, municipalities, or other organizations that have launched an FTTx project; individuals at vendors or research organizations whose work has benefited FTTx technology development; other elected officials or policymakers who have made a significant positive impact in the regulatory or legal arena; and other deserving individuals. Nominations can be submitted online at http://www.lightwaveonline.com/content/lw/en/fttx/fttxcellence-nomination-2013.html by Aug. 2. A panel of judges from Lightwave, Corning and the FTTH Council will select the winner from the submitted nominations.

In addition to an awards ceremony at the FTTH Conference, the winner will be honored with a donation in his or her name to US Ignite, a non-profit, public-private partnership whose mission is to make the U.S. the world leader in applications and services for ultra-fast, software-defined networks. The winner will also receive a decorative glass piece from the Corning Museum of Glass and will be profiled in an issue of Lightwave magazine.
