The Wall Street Journal reported that Corning’s optical fiber is now a critical component in AI data centers, following a $6 billion deal with Meta. Corning CEO Wendell Weeks said, “Over even short distances, transmitting data with photons is three times as efficient as electrons. ... And over long distances, it’s more like 20 times.” Corning’s strategy of reinvesting in fiber optics has positioned it as a leader in the market, with ongoing talks for similar deals and potential expansion into server-integrated fiber.
