Is the world getting better?

Depends on who you ask. Everyone has an opinion. So does Corning.

Factors like diversity, literacy, reduction of extreme poverty, and access to water and electricity are on the upswing. And so is progress.

Long ago, Corning placed our bet on progress. It’s a good bet, says CEO Wendell Weeks. He knows because Corning has the technology in hand to make it happen.

That technology is optical fiber. For half a century, fiber and cable have brought life-changing value to society, linking people to resources, bridging gaps in understanding, and channeling culture and entertainment.

So, is the world getting better? Here’s our take.

To paraphrase Harvard psychology professor Steven Pinker, progress is not a miracle – it’s problem-solving. And although there is no shortage of problems, we at Corning embrace those problems as opportunities – our mission really – to make the world just a little bit better.
