Academy announced at grand opening of Corning® Advanced-Flow™ Reactor business’s global headquarters

Corning Incorporated today announced the establishment of the Corning Advanced-Flow Technology Academy in Changzhou, China, to deliver leading-edge, interactive live training on Corning’s flow chemistry education platform, Corning Nebula™ Education Kits.

The academy was announced as part of the grand opening of the Corning® Advanced-Flow™ Reactor (AFR) business’s global headquarters in Changzhou Science and Education Town. The new headquarters comprises three floors featuring product-demonstration rooms, a research and development lab, lecture classrooms, and a 3D virtual reality experience. Corning’s academy is designed to provide live lecture series and in-person lab practice sessions in a classroom environment, while also showcasing the unlimited possibilities flow chemistry can enable today and in the future.

“Our new academy will further our efforts and investment in helping the next generation of students realize the value of flow chemistry and AFR technology, which has become one of the most important technologies in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and new materials industries,” said Dr. Yi Jiang, president and general manager, Corning Advanced-Flow Reactor Technology. “Corning provides an inherently safer technology that also enables process automation and digitization, as well as system intelligence, which leads to higher-quality chemical processing – helping our customers as they work to reduce their environmental impact.”

To provide strategic guidance of the academy’s direction and program focus, Corning’s AFR business has formed a technical committee of 22 leaders from academia, industrial, and professional associations around the world, as well as a team of 50 lecturers – providing a wide breadth and depth of industry experience in advanced-flow reactor technology and related fields.

Professor Jiang Juncheng, president of Changzhou University, and deputy director of the Advanced-Flow Technology Academy technical committee said, "Through the new generation of advanced continuous-flow technology devices and virtually realistic future operation scenarios, the Academy will enable trainees to experience the beauty of science and to appreciate the engineering behind modern chemistry. We hope students will be inspired by the future we see for chemical production with inherently safer processing."

“Since 2019, Corning has seen the chemical processing industry focus on academic research institutions, universities, and vocational training schools dedicated to flow chemistry, especially in China,” Jiang said. “We’re excited to bolster and advance industry recognition of flow chemistry as an effective approach that appeals to a new generation of students.”

AFR technology is an inherently safer technology that can drive higher-quality chemical processing and reduced risk of process hazards. Additional benefits include energy savings, increased efficiency of chemical synthesis, lower production costs, and reduced environmental impact.
