Corning® medium binding untreated surface is primarily suitable for the immobilization of large molecules, such as antibodies, which have large hydrophobic regions that can interact with the surface. Unmodified polystyrene surfaces are hydrophobic in nature and can only bind through passive interactions. Due to the large surface area needed to immobilize biomolecules in this manner, binding capacities are typically low: 100 to 200 ng IgG/cm2.
