Laura, Materials Engineer

Meet Laura. She’s molding the minds of the next generation of female scientists and engineers.

Laura began her career with Corning in Wilmington, North Carolina where she created a program to encourage female teenagers to pursue the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.

“There were several student outreach programs in place, but nothing that specifically targeted female teenagers,” says Laura. “Through this program, we’re giving students the opportunity to learn about STEM and consider pursuing careers in fields they might not have considered. The program has been so successful, it’s even extended to other schools, helping to grow excellence in the community.”

Laura has since moved from Wilmington to Corning, New York where she now works as a materials engineer. Laura says it’s amazing to be surrounded by so many female colleagues and to be part of a strong community of employees who are proud and excited to work for Corning.

“I love to see women with very diverse backgrounds and experiences working together in their fields,” says Laura. “To be able to learn from one another and have a support network within the company is valuable to me.”

We’re proud of our female scientists, engineers, and working professionals like Laura and know they are shaping a brighter, clearer future.

“I love to see women with very diverse backgrounds and experiences working together in their fields.”
