Alisa, Optical Fiber Applications Engineer

Meet Alisa. She’s thriving as an engineer at Corning.

Alisa was first drawn to engineering during a college service trip to Haiti. The realization that working in a technical field could not only be rewarding, but could also help people ultimately led her to change majors from speech pathology to physics – a field generally dominated by men.

“During college, I was used to being one of a few females in my upper level math and science courses,” says Alisa, who admits she missed taking calculus courses as a speech pathology major. “When I arrived at Corning, I was inspired to see so many women in technical fields. Corning has an amazing work environment built upon mutual respect and collaboration.”

Today, Alisa says she is thriving at Corning thanks to a supportive, diverse team who continues to encourage her to take on new challenges and experiences to develop her skills as an engineer.

“I don’t have to fight every day to prove myself because I am a woman,” says Alisa. “I only have to prove myself for my personal abilities as an engineer.”

We’re proud of our female scientists, engineers, and working professionals like Alisa and know they are shaping a brighter, clearer future.
