Shape a brighter future

Steven

GSM Regional Supply Director – China

“With their unique ability to contribute to business success, our female members shall have the opportunity to participate fully, to grow professionally, and to develop to her highest potential."

Woman have a unique outlook and can contribute differently at the workspace than do their male counterparts. Women tend to be compassionate, thoughtful and creative. Having a women’s perspective on our team offers the advantage, creating a more innovative and productive workspace. And by giving assignments to our female team members on special projects, women’s unique outlook can be leveraged to approaching problems.

Furthermore, not only do we have flexible work arrangement for women, but we will always believe in the fundamental dignity of the individual – one of Corning’s seven values. I am committed to providing flexible work arrangements for women, so they can fulfill their roles with the families, communities and societies.

In terms of leadership and success, we intend that Talent Review is always on the agenda in the regional operations review, and talent development with diversity being one of key topics in the focus. In addition, an Up2 event, a special forum open to all women employees in region in engaging with women leadership, is annually held to inspire and promote women leadership development and exchange experiences in successfully managing work and life balance. And my approach to develop women leaders involves many ways: 1) I strive to have some of our leadership members being women; 2) make sure that women leadership development and career path are considered in the organization development and leadership succession plan.

I also listen to career concerns and desires, offer equal access/opportunities to our female members. I have regular 1:1 dialogue with selected women employees, to listen to their careers concerns and desires. Women have equal access to training programs in professional and leadership development.

Diversity and Inclusion have been parts of Corning’s culture for a long time, and their essential roles in our team development and operational success are deeply ingrained in all of us. At our organizational overall level, we strive to achieve the best we can, and we are committed to diversity by putting it as part of organizational development metrics across all functional teams.

Inclusion is integral to how we build strong business relationships with our supply marketplace, this is because different backgrounds help us with different ways to view, interpret and solve the problems. We hire the best available diverse talent; our organization has an open-door policy, with senior leadership being accessible to all levels of employees; our teams are given all the tools they need to work effectively, and participate in industry and market events.

“Talent development with diversity is always being one of key topics in the talent review topic”
