In order for any company to properly serve its customers and shareholders, its employees and leadership must reflect the demographics of who they serve.  For Corning to achieve its mission to provide life changing innovation for the world, it is essential to have leadership that similarly represent the diversity inside our company. 

As business leaders, we must commit to the development of female leaders as they bring unique skills sets and perspectives to serve our customers and shareholders. As a father of two beautiful children, my hope is that my daughter will receive the same opportunities in life as will my son.  Both of them are uniquely created with different gifts and interest. Such gifting will allow them to excel and contribute to the society in different ways.  It is my job as a father to empower both of my children to exercise their gifts to the fullest potential.  

At Corning, I have been blessed by the opportunity to work with many talented female leaders. These leaders have enriched my view of business, my understanding of leadership and enabled me to be a more effective business manager. 

-    Lily Lee stepped out of her comfort zone of HR function in our leadership development training team to learn and to tackle technical challenges

-    Debby Liao fearlessly led our FIT commercial team to drive business results in a male dominant IT industry

-    Tammie McFarland worked selflessly to ensure each participant in her leadership development course received the support they needed to be successful 

-    Chris Ding led her finance team to execute our business strategy and serve her business partners

These are just some of the great female leaders we have in Corning.  I am honored to be part of their team.  My hope is that I can do a small part to support and encourage other female leaders in our great company.

As a famous person once said “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” As leaders, we must embrace diversity and ensure we enable our female leaders to lead to their fullest potential.
