Jeffery

Regional General Manager, Corning Life Sciences Asia

“Female employees are an important part of our community, we spend extra efforts to make sure they have great career development with us and have a good work and life balance."

In 2010 Corning Life Sciences decided to make a $40 million investment to capture the business growth opportunities in China. As a result, Wujiang plant was built and put into operation in Suzhou in 2011. Since then we have witnessed significant business growth with double digit CAGR with right strategy and strong execution in China in last decade.

As a division, we are blessed to have so many talented female colleagues as life science industry traditionally attracts a lot of college or above well-educated female professionals. Females are also well represented at all levels in our businesses in China.

In fact, 56% of China professional employees are females, 65% of our customer-facing commercial team members are females and even at most senior leadership level, 57% of my direct reports are also female leaders.

CLS conducts its business in a market environment with multifaceted complexities. We have a comprehensive product portfolio with more than 33000 SKUs and we serve tens of thousands academic and industrial customers through a highly complex multi-layer distributor network. Our products are used by our customers for all kinds of their general and specific applications. Some distinctive qualities of our female colleagues such as being collaborative, attentive to details, resilient under pressure, have been so valuable and indispensable to our business success in China.

As female employees are such an important part of our community, we spend extra efforts to make sure they have great career development with us and have a good work and life balance. For example, each year when our division female leadership visit China, we give our female leaders and hi-po female employees more exposure time with those senior executives through business update presentations, one on one meetings and group discussions around career development experience sharing.  In terms of work and life balance, for those female employees who are based outside our Shanghai office, they can choose to be home-based so that they can have extra time to take care of their young kids or family members.

“Our female colleagues have played pivotal roles in helping us establish a strong presence and leading market position in China."
