Innovations for a More Intelligent World

Innovations for a More Intelligent World

For decades, Corning has supported the aerospace and defense industries with the latest technologies to explore and monitor outer space and the Earth itself.

These technologies — from highly stable glass mirror blanks to high-performance imaging systems — require broad expertise in materials science and optics. As world leaders in both these areas, we have partnered with aerospace and defense customers to solve some of the toughest challenges standing in their way.

Our proprietary high-purity fused silica has formed the windows for all of the manned spacecraft in U.S. history. Our specialty glass-ceramics materials were so durable and heat-resistant that the U.S. military has chosen it for missile nose cones. Highly stable, optically pure Corning glass is at the heart of telescopes and photographic systems that have expanded our fundamental understanding of the cosmos.
