New Delhi, India - Corning’s Advanced-Flow Reactor (AFR) team has recently collaborated with Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Sun Pharma), India's top pharmaceutical company, integrating multiple G4 silicon carbide (SiC) reactors in their API manufacturing facility in Toansa.

Sun Pharma is the fourth largest specialty generic pharmaceutical company in the world. Supported by more than 40 manufacturing facilities, they provide high-quality, affordable medicines to more than 100 countries across the globe.

Designed for industrial production, the G4 SiC Reactor system offers outstanding mixing and heat exchange. Corning’s patented fluidic module HEART design provides seamless scale up for commercial production. The reactor systems enable high chemical durability for products in a variety of industries and help ensure inherently safer and more efficient chemical reactions.

The chemicals manufactured at Sun Pharma’s facility using the G4 SiC reactors are key ingredients required for pharmaceutical drug production that are utilized in the medical industry across the globe. Using the G4 SiC reactor enables Sun Pharma to perform a multi-step chemical synthesis in a single reactor, resulting in energy savings along with an inherently safer way to handle hazardous and pyrophoric chemicals. These chemicals would otherwise require cryogenic temperature conditions to operate.

The demand for flow chemistry within the Indian market is continuing to grow over the last few years with nearly half of the top pharmaceutical companies adopting AFR technology for both lab and production processes.
