Celebrating 65+ Years of Manufacturing Excellence

A Message from the Plant Manager

The Harrodsburg Plant has had an amazing 65-year history of manufacturing, development and innovation, and almost as amazing is how well positioned we are to continue this tradition for years and decades to come. The plant has maintained its roots in glass manufacturing, but continues to grow and evolve from its start in glass-pressing for ophthalmic and specialty glasses to fusion-formed LCD glass in the 1980s to Gorilla® & Willow® glasses in the 2000s. A cornerstone of this long history is the exceptional commitment and abilities of our employees.

Generations of talented and dedicated Harrodsburg employees have achieved many incredible milestones over the years and have built a truly one of a kind, positive work environment! The culture in the plant is often described as a family atmosphere, which is both literally and figuratively correct. In looking at our employees and retirees, there are many familiar names that cross multiple generations, but even those not related treat and support each other as family. There is a genuine passion for having strong working relationships and supporting one another. I believe this is a fundamental component of the plant’s ongoing success and longevity. In my relatively short time at the plant, I have been impressed the most by the generosity, dedication and abilities of the employees here. I appreciate being welcomed into the Harrodsburg family, a place that lives Corning’s Values every day.

At the foundation of the plant’s success is its people and culture that embraces change. This willingness to support and engage in new technology has allowed the plant to redefine itself many times over the years and allows it to keep thriving. The plant is a frequent stop for customer, government, and leadership tours and visitors are often shocked to learn that the facility has been around for 65 years. It looks like a newer plant thanks to a combination of our employee’s strong track record of results and technical skills, the ability to work across divisions and organizations to execute development activities, and cus-tomers that continue to purchase our innovative products. These demonstrated strengths have contributed to the corporation’s willingness to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Harrodsburg over the years and its ongoing support today. The world continues to change and our goal is make sure we are evolving and changing at a similar, or faster, rate.

It is an exciting time in Harrodsburg as we install and develop a new advanced manufacturing platform and continue to drive manufacturing and development excellence.
