RocketRibbon® Cable

RocketRibbon® Cable

Corning’s new RocketRibbon® cabling solution was developed to meet today’s demand for the highest bandwidth capacity in a duct, buried or aerial application. RocketRibbon provides reduced outer diameter measurements while providing higher densities over legacy ribbon cables. RocketRibbon’s Extreme Density fiber counts are especially suited for data center interconnect (DCI) applications and other emerging network needs, such as 5G, where high fiber availability is critical while our lower fiber counts support carrier PON architecture networks.

Additionally, our optimized pairing solutions for the Fiber Optic Splice Closure 2178 family is ideal for our RocketRibbon cables, providing excellent system flexibility and reliable protection for brownfield and greenfield deployments, smart designs to make your job easier, and features to meet network demands.

Product Overview

Product Overview

In developing this cable, Corning did extensive Voice of the Customer research to determine what mattered to our customers. It was clear that cable handling, access, and installation were all important factors in addition to extreme density in a small footprint.

This resulted in a revolutionary cable design that provides up to 30% faster installation time when compared to other high fiber count cables.

Our RocketRibbon® cables:

  • 288F and 432F are available in all-dielectric and armored with FastAccess® technology
  • Extreme density versions are available in 1728F and 3456F
  • Utilize a completely gel-free water-blocking design that eliminates additional fiber cleaning
  • Improved longer lasting jacket printing
  • Contain proven ribbon design that is the standard across the globe
  • Introduce a completely new subunit design that enables 288F in a small, flexible package

A Closer Look at Our New Subunit Design

  • Each stack of 288 fibers is contained within a colored, gel-free, extruded subunit
  • Subunits can be routed directly to splice trays and hardware
  • Subunits are finger-peelable, enabling instant access to ribbon stacks
  • 24F ribbons can be split quickly and easily, ready for mass-fusion splicing
  • Water-swellable tape protects subunits and ribbon stacks against moisture
