Present Women at Corning

With a rich legacy of Corning women behind us, we continue to embody the spirit, characteristics, and beliefs of past women in the present. Today’s female engineers, scientists, specialists, and others are focused on being a valued resource throughout Corning and take on important roles in all facets of the company. By doing so, these women are building a strong network across the company, supporting one another while also acting as mentors and role models for the future workforce.

Monica Bankston

What is the biggest challenge you've overcome professionally?

Stepping outside my comfort zone so that I could allow myself to grow professionally.

What is the one piece of advice you’d give women in the workforce?

Build and nurture strong relationships, and don't be afraid of taking on new challenges when they arise. Find a mentor early in your career and then give back by being a mentor to someone else.

Chris Heckle

What is the one piece of advice you’d give women in the workforce?

Care and try hard. Everything else follows from there. If you care, you’ll always be thinking about delivering. If you try hard, you’ll always be thinking about continuous improvement and experimenting with better ways to deliver.

Edith Hernandez

What is your biggest professional accomplishment?

Being one of the first women plant managers and the first one in Mexico.

What is the one piece of advice you’d give women in the workforce?

You can reach anything you want if you have the desire to do it.

Ann Nicholson

How has Corning helped further your career goals?

Through numerous jobs where I could learn from my supervisor, and deliver on major accomplishments, I have become a well-rounded leader with experience in a broad range of functions and businesses.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome professionally?

I wouldn’t say that I’ve “overcome” this, but I continue to battle being a woman trying to be heard while not being perceived as being too difficult.

What is the one piece of advice you’d give women in the workforce?

When you focus on results and are a team player, the end product speaks for itself. Try not to get caught up in the “politics” or battles that don’t serve to deliver on the objectives/results, but instead help keep everyone focused on the mission at hand. You and your team will be successful.

Kathie Schrock

What is your biggest professional accomplishment?

I was the first woman at Corning to be named Corporate Employee Relations Manager.

What is the one piece of advice you’d give women in the workforce?

Take some risks. Don’t be afraid or apologetic for “taking the stage.” In other words, be confident in your capabilities, use your voice, and ask for help when you need it.
