Corning’s Senior Research Scientist, Mardochee Reveil, recognized in ACS for Life report titled, “AI for Materials Discovery”

Showcasing his expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and materials engineering, Corning Senior Research Scientist Mardochee Reveil was one of eight experts recently featured in the American Chemical Society’s Chemistry for Life (ACS) report, which was published by Chemical & Engineering News, titled, “AI for Materials Discovery.” The report includes information from various experts on the future for AI in materials.

Within his profile, Mardochee, who has worked in Corning’s Research and Development division for the last four years, spoke about how machine learning can help accelerate the glass discovery process.

“Corning already uses AI in various capacities along in the glassmaking process from composition design to manufacturing,” Mardochee said. “But we are still scratching the surface of what’s possible. We need to focus not only on the technical capabilities that our AI tools can offer but also in how they are delivered. When we deliver powerful AI tools capable of providing the right insights at the right time, we will truly achieve the full potential of AI which is a combination of human expertise and Artificial Intelligence to bring unprecedented value to our businesses and customers.”

Mardochee is now leading an effort to combat the “dearth of data” in materials science by reshaping how Corning manages its data through the research process. Along with his colleagues, Mardochee is helping to establish the foundation for a next-generation platform that will enable scientists to record and manage their data in a semantically enriched form. He believes that the efforts of this team will help better enable advanced AI algorithms which will provide valuable insights for making glass.

Mardochee was honored to be included in the ACS for Life report along with other industry experts. “As a scientist, continued learning and education is something that I’m passionate about,” he said. “Sharing ideas on AI for material discovery and learning the best practices of other companies will only help make us better in the long run.”
