Score a Hat Trick with Your Security Deployment

Score a Hat Trick with Your Security Deployment

Building a reliable, robust, high-performance network is an enormous investment, up to tens of millions of dollars. Answering the following questions will help you protect that investment and make the most of your network over its lifetime: How will you ensure higher performance, improved reliability, and better utilization of your network over time?

By planning ahead, you can avoid lag and switch over-utilization that can crash critical applications and prevent accidents caused by human error due to partial or incomplete connections and accidental disconnects. Taking care with the products and processes you select can save you time, cost, and damage to your valuable reputation.

A three-pronged approach can help you find the best answers to these questions and score a hat trick for your network. Start from layer one of your network infrastructure and consider our three recommendations below to develop a more secure network.

Goal #1: Integrate Passive Fiber Network Monitoring

Integrate passive fiber network monitoring into your structured cabling for a fully integrated and proactive monitoring of your network performance–often referred to as “fiber tapping.”

EDGE™/EDGE8® tap modules enable passive optical tapping of the network while reducing downtime and link loss and increasing rack space utilization and density compared to other optical tap options. Unlike other passive optical tap solutions that must be added as separate devices in the network link, EDGE/EDGE8 tap modules integrate coupler technology for passive optical tapping into a structured cabling component, the module. Monitored ports can be added without disrupting the system’s live traffic and insertion loss in the link is reduced by integrating passive optical tapping into the module.

Goal #2: Reduce the Risk of Accidental Disconnection or Partial Connection

The New EDGE LC Lockable Uniboot Jumpers

The latest members of the EDGE LC Uniboot jumper family, these state-of-the-art lockable jumpers reduce the risk of accidentally bringing down the network and the cost of troubleshooting the disconnected link. They bring all the value of the LC Uniboot connector but require no special skills, tools, or training to use.

You can eliminate the risk of partial connection with the lock-out engagement during the initial installation. Additionally, the integrated trigger lock-out feature ensures accidental disconnects do not occur when the connector is in service.
