Long-Haul Fiber Networks

Reach and Performance

Long-haul, terrestrial optical fiber networks connect cities and countries throughout the world. Today, these networks typically range from a few hundred to several thousand kilometers and have largely migrated to 100G-based dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems with 80 channels or more.

Corning's innovative line of optical fibers meet all of these requirements for distance, bit rate, and capacity, and they also provide both high speed and low attenuation over long spans. In addition, they can manage the dispersion in legacy, lower bit rate systems that accumulates as light signals travel over long distances, as well as the nonlinear penalties that can limit performance for existing systems.

No matter your network architecture, Corning’s high-data-rate fibers address your network needs today and in the future.

Corning® TXF™ Optical Fiber

Most advanced fiber for long-haul networks

Corning TXF Optical Fiber

Another in Corning’s long line of innovative optical fiber products, Corning’s TXF Optical Fiber combines both ultra-low loss and a larger effective area. TXF fiber is compliant with ITU-T Recommendation G.654.E, a category of advanced fibers for long-haul terrestrial networks with cut-off wavelength shifted to just below the loss minimized C-band region.

The superior attributes of TXF fiber allow for the provision of an additional network margin that can be leveraged to allow reliable, high-data-rate transmission over longer spans and extended reach.

Combined with advanced optical networking equipment, our latest ultra-low-loss optical fiber technology offers simplicity...

Corning® SMF-28® ULL Optical Fiber

Lowest loss of any terrestrial-grade fiber

Corning SMF-28 ULL Optical Fiber

Corning’s SMF-28® ULL fiber has the lowest loss of any terrestrial grade single-mode fiber with a maximum attenuation of 0.17 dB/km at 1550 nm. SMF-28 ULL fiber has been deployed around the world in some of the most challenging network applications, where ultra-low attenuation can be leveraged to extend network span lengths, skip amplification sites, upgrade to faster bit rates, add network components for improved flexibility, and/or lengthen the distance between regenerators.

Ultra-low-loss optical fiber allows carriers and cloud operators to extend optical reach at very high-data rates and makes networks scalable for higher capacities as the demand for bandwidth continues to...

Corning® LEAF® Optical Fiber

Most widely deployed non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber

Corning LEAF Optical Fiber

Corning® LEAF® optical fiber has become the go-to solution for long-haul and metro networks. In the race to satisfy the global demand for bandwidth, LEAF fiber is the clear winner as the world's most widely deployed non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber (NZDSF).

Additionally, LEAF fiber is the industry leader in polarization mode dispersion (PMD) specifications and has the lowest attenuation of any NZDSF on the market.

Built to withstand decades of demands in challenging environments, LEAF fiber can be used in multiple network architectures and can help existing networks evolve from 10G to the 40G and 100G systems of the future.
