(HIMSS, Booth #2711) - MobileAccess, a global provider of enterprise wireless solutions, today announced that its in-building wireless solutions are deployed across more than 350 healthcare facilities, including more than 160 new installations in 2009. The company’s continued traction in the healthcare industry has been fueled by customer need to better support mission-critical radiofrequency (RF) services and upgrade the patient experience with mobile applications that rely on indoor coverage.

The new 2009 deployments include both existing customers expanding their MobileAccess distributed antenna system (DAS) deployments, as well as new customer installations. Recent customer wins include: Denver Health (Denver, Colo.), Trinity Health (Novi, MI), and All Children’s Hospital (St. Petersburg, Fla.) These facilities join hundreds of hospitals – such as Florida Hospital, Clarian Health and Northwestern Memorial Hospital – which have already been using MobileAccess’ DAS solution to improve patient care, reduce the likelihood of medical errors and upgrade the family experience.

“The main impetus of our decision to invest in the MobileAccess system was their ability to support our plans for house-wide patient monitoring telemetry,” said Lee Castiglioni, Senior Enterprise Architect, Trinity Health. “The most advanced in-building wireless technology for a healthcare facility, the MobileAccess DAS is both scalable and manageable. In addition to supporting multiple cell phone carriers, two way pagers and radios, it’s the best fit to support our patient monitoring telemetry solutions.”

Healthcare facilities are embracing a broad array of wireless solutions for both personal and medical use, ranging from medical telemetry, digital health records and wireless security access to personal smart-phones and push-to-talk devices, making indoor wireless coverage a necessity. However, the nature of hospitals’ dense construction often blocks carriers’ signals from entering the building, rendering many devices useless.

The cornerstone of today’s wireless hospital environments, MobileAccess DAS solutions enable healthcare leaders to take full advantage of the latest wireless technologies. Successful delivery of these solutions is supported by an extensive partner network, including Alcatel-Lucent, Cellular Specialties, Inc., Coleman, GE Healthcare, and Henkles & McCoy, which will also be exhibiting at HIMSS.

The MobileAccess infrastructure enables a variety of mobile services and applications critical for the healthcare industry, including:
- Cellular services for BlackBerry and other devices from multiple operators;
- Wireless medical telemetry from providers such as GE;
- Un-tethered clinical devices and applications such as Patient Keeper data management system and Alaris wireless IV pumps;
- Integrated third-party WLAN capabilities that enable advanced location and VoIP applications, including support for Vocera badges and Cisco 7921 VoIP phones;
- Paging, private two-way radio and public safety radios;
- 900MHz-based sensor applications for temperature measurement and other applications.

“Wireless technology is profoundly changing the healthcare industry, and the need for consistent signal delivery throughout an entire campus or facility is going to increase exponentially as 4G and other new technologies are introduced,” said Ron Kaiser, Chief Executive Officer, MobileAccess. “Our strong partnerships with the many healthcare CIOs and the world-class VARs who serve and lead this industry keep improving our ability to stay ahead of customers’ increasing demands.”
