Corning Expands Availability of Industry’s First and Longest All-Optical Thunderbolt™ Cables to Europe
CORNING, N.Y. | Corning Incorporated | Август 27, 2014

Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) today announced its Thunderbolt™ Optical Cables by Corning are now available in the European market in cable lengths spanning 5.5, 10, 30 and an unprecedented 60 meters.

The first all-optical fiber cables for the Thunderbolt community, Optical Cables by Corning are enabled by Corning® ClearCurve® VSDN® optical fiber. They are up to 50 percent thinner and up to 80 percent lighter than comparable copper cables, qualities that enable convenient transport. With a “zero bend” radius, they can withstand bending, squeezing and tangling without damage or loss of function, making them ideal for routing through the harsh environment of a crowded workspace.

“This radically different cabling technology is ideal for professional video editors and music producers – or anyone – wanting the freedom to transfer massive amounts of data at their workstation, but with the whir of noisy peripherals in an entirely different room,” said Bernhard Deutsch, vice president, Consumer Networks Connectivity Solutions for Corning Optical Communications. “Our products are designed to address real-world problems and Optical Cables by Corning give users the ability to create, move and manage data for what they need and how they work.”

With an electrically isolated noise-reducing design, Optical Cables by Corning are perfect for connecting today’s Thunderbolt-enabled devices, including: audiovisual equipment; distributed antenna, Serial Attached SCSI and Storage Area Network storage devices; docking stations, expansion chassis, and small Ethernet workgroup networks. They can also “daisy-chain” up to six Thunderbolt devices at the same time and are “hot swappable,” meaning they can be attached and removed without interruption to the system.

Thunderbolt Optical Cables by Corning have successfully undergone a rigorous certification process to provide users with an optimal experience. Thunderbolt is a trademark of Intel Corporation in the U.S. and/or other countries.

In Germany the Thunderbolt cables are now available in the Apple Store. The price of the 10-meter cable is € 299.95 recommended retail price, the 30-meter cable € 659.00 recommended retail price and the 60-meter cable € 1299.00 r recommended retail price.
