SCF Gel End-Cap closure and cable with FastAccess™ Technology to be featured 

Corning Optical Communications LLC, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE: GLW) Telecommunications segment, will highlight its flexible fiber-to-the-home and wireless deployment solutions through exhibits and hands-on demonstrations at the OSP EXPO® 2012 in Denver, Nov. 14-15.  

In the exhibit (booth #901), Corning will feature its latest solutions for outside plant fiber access networks, including fiber-to-the-home and fiber-to-the-antenna applications. Visitors will get first-hand experience with Corning’s flexible deployment solution sets, beginning in the switch center and progressing to various preconnectorized solutions for reaching the subscriber premises.

New to the booth this year is the SCF Gel End-Cap closure, enabling faster, craft-friendly installation in aerial, duct and direct-buried applications. The closure uses an independent gel port to enable faster initial installation and re-entry than traditional mechanical closures.

The Gel End-Cap design allows a cable to be quickly installed in one of the six independent ports and prevents previously installed cables from being disturbed when the closure is re-entered.

The SCF Gel End-Cap closure  also contains a tray and slack frame that can separate from the mainframe to simplify splicing and bare fiber management inside the tray, allowing all splicing to be done away from the closure.

The exhibit also includes an area dedicated to Corning’s Solutions for Wireless Networks, which leverage field-proven solutions to make fiber-to-the-antenna deployment an easy plug-and-play operation with fast moves, adds and changes. Wireless operators can easily meet their customers’ needs for data capacity and coverage through the deployment of 3G, 4G and LTE solutions, even in crowded tower and rooftop environments.

Visitors to the Corning booth will have the opportunity to see a demonstration of the ALTOS® Cable with FastAccess™ Technology, a new product for the outside plant that will be available in January 2013. This innovative design simplifies removal of the cable jacket.


Demonstrations of the low-loss, field-installable OptiSnap® Connector will highlight how its high-precision mechanical splice technology enables networks to be installed quickly and cost effectively.
