HICKORY, N.C. | Corning Incorporated | июля 17, 2012

Corning MobileAccess, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, today announced that St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor has expanded its wireless footprint and improved overall connectivity at the hospital through the deployment of a Corning MobileAccess distributed antenna system (DAS).

St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor is a leading healthcare provider in Ann Arbor, Mich., and a member of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System (SJMHS).

“The modern hospital requires more than just Wi-Fi. Healthcare providers like St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor need to have seamless cellular service throughout their facilities,” said Tom Tocco, vice president, Support Services and Capital Projects, SJMHS.  “The Corning solution not only allows patients and visitors to easily communicate with family and loved ones outside of the facility, but it also improves access to physicians and staff, improving response time in the event of emergencies and enhancing overall efficiency of our operations.”

This deployment comes on the heels of a sister hospital, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Mich., also implementing a Corning MobileAccess DAS through RF Connect, a leader in the design and deployment of high performance wireless networks.

St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor is a 537-bed comprehensive, community and teaching hospital, serving Ann Arbor and the surrounding communities for 100 years. Currently celebrating a “Century of Caring,” the hospital is frequently ranked as a Top 100 Hospital by Thomson Reuters, and is at the forefront of many clinical specialties, including cardiovascular medicine, oncology, orthopedics and robotic surgery.

From electronic medical records (EMR) to wireless medical telemetry systems, indoor cellular coverage and technologies like 4G LTE  are vital to providing efficient, effective patient care. St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor enlisted RF Connect and Corning to improve the hospital’s wireless architecture to better meet the demands of emerging solutions without impacting staff and patient safety.

“Mobility and enhanced patient care go hand-in-hand, a trend that the St. Joseph Mercy Health System has quickly recognized and embraced with a Corning MobileAccess DAS,” said Mike Genovese, senior vice president, Wireless Networks and New Business Development, Corning Optical Communications. “The Corning solution provides St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor with pervasive cellular coverage for critical communications, and future-ready, ubiquitous accessibility to vital healthcare applications, like electronic medical records and patient monitoring.”

RF Connect recommended the Corning MobileAccess2000 DAS, a multi-carrier, multi-service indoor wireless platform which supports existing and legacy wireless services, like 2G and 3G, and emerging services, like 4G LTE. Another benefit was MobileAccess2000’s modular architecture, which made adding services or carriers easier by not requiring major construction while minimizing interruptions for staff, visitors, and patients.
