Customer feedback enables continued evolution of Corning’s high-density preterminated optical cabling solutions for the data center environment

Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, introduces user-focused improvements to its Pretium EDGE® Solutions. Pretium EDGE Solutions reduce installation time by up to 35 percent, and new features like snap-in routing guides, mounting brackets for depth adjustments and a reduced cable leg outer diameter make installations even more convenient.

The Pretium EDGE Solutions improvements include:

Harness and Jumper
The introduction of the Reverse Polarity Uniboot jumper and harness enables quick and easy polarity management in the field without any tooling requirements.
Terminated with MTP® Connectors on both ends and Corning® ClearCurve® multimode cable, the new 12-fiber, 40G jumper meets the IEEE 802.3ba 40/100G  total connector loss requirements of 1.5 dB for OM3 and 1.0 for OM4 at 40G.
Improved harness staggering provides better cable management into electronics.

Cable
A reduction in cable leg outer diameter allows for easier routing for 40/100G networks.
The addition of hybrid LC-to-MTP trunks expands design options.

Module
The addition of online access to each component’s factory test results gives customers performance assurance.
The standard single-mode fiber performance offering is enhanced, as module loss improves from 1.3 dB to 1.0 dB.

Housing
The introduction of the EDGE-02U supplies a housing option for 288 fibers.
A new mounting bracket allows EDGE housings to be mounted in 23-inch racks.
A new “Easy-Install” mounting system enables single-person installation of all EDGE housings into racks or cabinets. Improved mounting brackets enable flexible depth adjustment of all EDGE housings into racks and frames.
Added top-cover entry provides easier access to modules in the EDGE-01U and EDGE-02U housings.
A new strain-relief plate in the EDGE housing supports installation of Pretium EDGE® Solutions cables and Plug and Play™ System cables.
Improved tray routing guides provide easier support and management of jumper routing.
New convenient snap-in side routing guides enable faster installation.

Pretium EDGE is available in stock nationwide at Corning Cable Systems’ authorized distributors. In addition, Corning Cable Systems has a FastConnect program at its manufacturing facilities. This made-to-order program delivers custom lengths in two weeks or less.

Introduced in 2009, Pretium EDGE Solutions for data center applications address the needs of ease-of-use, scalability, termination density and technology future proofing, while offering excellent total cost of ownership. Enabled by Corning® ClearCurve® bend-insensitive OM3 and OM4 multimode fibers, Pretium EDGE Solutions allow for up to 35 percent faster deployment; enable up to 25 percent faster moves, adds and changes (MACs); and offer up to 100 percent more density than traditional preterminated solutions.
