Cambridge, Mass. – Corning’s Advanced Flow™ (AFR) technology continues to expand its footprint in North America through its relationship with Snapdragon Chemistry, Inc. to develop flow chemistry solutions to help customers create new or improved processes for chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Corning’s Low-Flow reactor is currently being utilized in the Snapdragon facility to enable chemistry development and identify the appropriate synthetic routes that can easily and seamlessly be transferred to industrial production. In addition, Snapdragon will provide Corning’s customers with continuous-flow demonstrations and experimental trials at a small scale for early stage processes as well as guidance with developing new chemistries.

“We are very pleased to add Snapdragon to our global network of customers,” said Dr. Yi Jiang, global business director for Corning Reactor Technologies. “They have extensive chemistry expertise in pharmaceutical, fine, and specialty chemical industries and employ chemists who are skilled at applying various synthetic methods which are key parameters for the appropriate utilization of AFR reactors.”

Snapdragon was founded by two leaders in continuous flow technology, Tim Jamison, a professor of chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Aaron Beeler, an assistant professor of chemistry at Boston University. They started Snapdragon because they felt compelled to help companies fully harness the benefits of continuous flow as – with increased frequency – industry colleagues asked for their guidance and collaboration to help implement flow into their R&D and manufacturing operations.

The Snapdragon leadership team is comprised of experts from within the chemical industry and is very excited to be working with Corning’s AFR technology in their labs.

In addition, the modular design of the Corning system provides a flexible and easy-to-use platform for flow chemistry development.”

And although Corning’s AFR business has been around for more than 10 years, the chemical processing industry is continuing to grow and change. “The utilization of continuous flow solutions is still a new concept for many current and potential customers in North America,” said Alessandra Vizza, regional commercial manager, EMEA, Americas, Corning AFR Technology. “Providing our customers with Corning’s engineering and equipment capabilities coupled with Snapdragon’s chemistry expertise is a win for everyone.”
