Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW), along with network provider Openreach, have jointly claimed this year’s prestigious Infrastructure Innovation award at the Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation Awards in London.
The prize, co-awarded to Corning and Openreach, recognizes the innovative deployment of Corning’s OptiTap® aerial hybrid drop solution. Developed through close collaboration with Openreach, the Corning solution was designed to aid field engineers tasked with cable installation.
The environmentally hardened solution brings together the advantages of a combined copper and fiber delivery, with the time- and cost-saving benefits of a pre-connectorized product offering to simplify fiber installation and handling, eliminating the need to fusion splice in the field, and reduce the need for special tools and equipment.

The Infrastructure Innovation award recognizes project collaboration between an operator – fixed, wireless, or satellite – and an equipment vendor, data center, or over-the-top (OTT) telecommunications provider that brings a significant advance in connectivity at any part in the network, in terms of bandwidth, quality of service, access, reliability, cost, or other factor.
