Consumer electronics company to introduce new devices using Corning’s durable, scratch-resistant glass

Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) today announced ASUS’s plan to design Corning® Gorilla® Glass 2 into their newest 2012 devices. Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is the next generation of the widely accepted damage-resistant cover glass for consumer electronic devices. This new glass enables up to 20 percent reduction in cover glass thickness, without sacrificing the performance customers have come to expect from the world’s most widely deployed strengthened cover glass.

“We have collaborated with Corning to bring the scratch resistance and durability of Corning Gorilla Glass to the very popular ASUS Transformer family of products,” said Samson Hu, corporate vice president, ASUS. “We look forward to the introduction of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 as it provides product design opportunities never before available. We can leverage these differences to deliver high-performing devices that are thin and lightweight for an enhanced mobile computing experience.”

“We’ve been pleased to work with ASUS to bring the scratch resistance and durability of Corning Gorilla Glass to the ASUS Transformer family of products,” said David Velasquez, director of marketing and commercial operations, Corning Gorilla Glass. “As our customers drive toward thinner form factors, Corning has worked to deliver an even-thinner cover glass solution, while maintaining industry-leading damage resistance, toughness, and scratch resistance.”

ASUS expects to make specific product announcements and unveil new devices using Corning Gorilla Glass 2 over the coming months.

Introduced in 2007, Corning Gorilla Glass set the industry standard for damage resistant cover glass. Today it is the most widely deployed cover glass, used by more than 30 major brands and designed into more than 575 product models spanning over 500 million units worldwide.

Corning is demonstrating the new glass performance at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 10–13 Booth #12642 Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
