Community partnership initiative provides schools with laboratory equipment 

Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced this year’s recipients of the “Partners in the Community” program.  The annual program grants laboratory supplies to local middle schools and high schools where Corning Life Sciences employees work or live.

The “Partners in the Community” program, which was launched in 2001, reflects Corning’s commitment to the communities and schools where children can get their start to becoming the next generation of scientists.

This program also helps middle and high school chemistry and biology departments achieve their educational goals by ensuring their laboratories are stocked with the world’s leading brands of glass and plasticware 

To date, over 100 schools have participated in the program and more than $200,000 worth of lab equipment has been donated by Corning.

“Corning remains committed to its local communities and to encouraging children to take an interest in science education,” said John Tobin, director of sales, Corning Life Sciences.

Corning Life Sciences employees are annually asked to nominate local schools or their alma maters for the program.  This year the schools were selected at random and include:

 • Andover High School, Andover, Mass.
 • Littleton High School, Littleton, Mass.
 • Dracut High School, Dracut, Mass.
 • Noble High School, North Berwick, Maine
 • Berwick Academy, South Berwick, Maine
 • The Pike School, Andover, Mass.
 • Hawthorne Brooke Middle School, Townsend, Mass.
 • Rome Free Academy, Rome, N.Y.
 • Leominster High School, Leominster, Mass.
 

 

Each school is also eligible to schedule a Corning scientist for a classroom visit to demonstrate the products and discuss science.
