Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) held a ceremony today to celebrate the opening of the Corning Life Sciences Asia Technology Center, located in Shanghai’s Jinqiao Technology Development Zone.
Scientists at the center will work with customers from across Asia to help them develop life-changing innovations for the life science industry. Areas of focus will range from new product development to customer process optimization, supporting the region’s significant growth in biological therapies such as vaccines.
“Corning established its reputation as an innovation leader more than 160 years ago. We continue to apply that same dedication today, providing new and better solutions for our life science customers around the world,” said Lydia Kenton Walsh, vice president, commercial operations for Corning Life Sciences, who was keynote speaker and co-host of the event.
“Our goal is to leverage our expertise in both technology and the life science industry to help enable breakthrough discoveries by our customers. Establishing the Corning Life Sciences Asia Technology Center represents a significant milestone in achieving that goal here in Asia,” Kenton Walsh added.
Eric Musser, president, Corning International, co-hosted the event attended by invited guests including customers, distributors and Chinese government officials.
“This technology center will offer Asia researchers the chance to learn about and adopt our leading edge solutions through a variety of hands-on training courses in bioprocessing and drug discovery,” said Douglas L. Lohse, general manager, Corning Life Sciences Greater China, “By forging deeper technical relationships with customers, we aim to shorten their development cycles and improve their productivity.”
The new Corning Life Science Asia Technology Center is co-located with the Corning Science & Technology China Lab at Jinqiao in Shanghai. Corning Life Sciences’ commercial operations for the China region are based in Shanghai, enabling close collaboration with customers in the region.
