Corning Celebrates ENERGY STAR Day

2017 theme encourages use of LED bulbs

Corning Incorporated's Global Energy Management (GEM) team is encouraging everyone to celebrate ENERGY STAR® Day on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017.

The day aims to spread awareness about the various resources offered by ENERGY STAR, a voluntary federal program helping businesses and individuals save energy and money.

As a proud four-time ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year, Corning works every day to reduce energy consumption, which promotes cleaner air and a healthier environment.

This year, ENERGY STAR is highlighting its “Light the Moment” campaign to share the benefits of using LED light bulbs.

“The goal of the Light the Moment campaign is to drive sales and adoption of energy-efficient, ENERGY STAR certified LED bulbs with a clear and simple call-to-action for consumers and with meaningful engagement opportunities for retailers, manufacturers and energy efficiency program sponsors,” reads an ENERGY STAR press release announcing the campaign, adding that the campaign is meant to reflect on special moments better illuminated with LEDs.

Did you know?

LEDs are up to 90 percent more efficient than traditional bulbs and can last 10-15 times as long.

If everyone used LEDs, we’d save an estimated $1.5 billion in energy costs annually, and would reduce annual carbon pollution by 17 billion pounds.

Some Corning sites are already 100 percent LED – such as plants in Pune, India and Kennebunk, Maine – and many more are on their way.

Corning’s GEM program has reduced company-wide energy use by 35 percent since 2006, saving more than $460 million.

These actions have won Corning four ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year awards, the most prestigious recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency, which heads ENERGY STAR.

Ten Corning plants have achieved ENERGY STAR’s Challenge for Industry for reducing site-wide energy usage more than 10 percent – eight plants meeting the challenge in two years and two in three years.
