Corning Recognized for Corporate Social Responsibility Efforts in Singapore

By way of cycling, walking, and even getting massages, employees of Corning ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) have made a significant positive impact on their local communities.

Their corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in Singapore were recognized by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) with the 2019 AmCham CARES Award. The awards were presented at AmCham’s 46th Annual General Meeting on April 26, attended by Her Excellency Mdm. Halimah Yacob, President of the Republic of Singapore.

The AmCham CARES Award recognizes American companies in Singapore that have demonstrated responsible business practices to create sustainable economic and social value in local communities. The award also recognizes firms with CSR programs meeting certain criteria, and AmCham partners get the opportunity to share these best practices at the annual meeting.

“Corning ASEAN started systematically planning for CSR in 2018, and this is a really proud moment for us to be recognized for our efforts,” said CT Ho, General Manager, ASEAN region. “Our employees played a big part in impacting the communities where Corning operates.”

Key Corning CSR activities in 2018 contributing to this award included:

·       Cycling – 34 cyclists persevered a combined 1,428 kilometers (887 miles) during the OCBC Cycle, raising more than $6,500 for the Singapore Disability Sports Council.

·       Walking – 1,935 bowls of rice were contributed in aid of AmCham’s Walk-for-Rice Corporate Community Day.

·       Getting massages – More than $1,100 was raised for the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped Mobile Massage Team, at the same time promoting wellbeing within the office environment.

·       Promoting environmental responsibility – The Corning Eco-Challenge encouraged employees to mindfully track their eco-friendly actions and Corning Cares glass PYREX mugs were provided as a sustainable option to disposable cups in the office.
