specialty fibers
Corning’s invention of the first low-loss optical fiber in 1970 was the catalyst
to ignite the communications revolution. Corning continues to build on that
core expertise to produce specialty fiber with the technical performance
parameters customers require.
To that end, Corning’s specialty fiber plays an integral role in many
high-performance telecommunication devices including optical amplifiers,
transmission lasers and external modulators. These applications are unlike
standard transmission fiber which is primarily used in point-to-point
transmission of optical signals. Corning's specialty fiber is also widely
deployed in fiber optic gyroscopes and navigation systems.
PANDA Polarization Maintaining Fiber
Available in a wide range of standard operating wavelengths and a variety of
different coating designs and best for high-performance polarization retaining
fiber applications.
Erbium-doped Fiber
Set the worldwide standard for uniformity and reliability, and holds a proven
track record for performance in state-of-the-art optical amplifiers.
SMF-28e® Photonic Fiber
Offers fiber attributes specifically tailored for optical connectorization and
component applications.
High Index Fiber
Ideal for use in smaller footprint components and EDFAs, combining ultra-low
bending loss, low insertion loss and excellent spliceability.
Reduced Cladding Fiber
Enables a wider range of system designs not possible with other standard
specialty fibers because of its extremely tight fiber coiling and low bend
loss. The fiber design includes an 80 micron cladding diameter.
Corning® Hermetic Single-Mode Specialty Fibers
Corning's Hermetic Single-Mode Specialty Fiber is designed for applications
requiring improved fatigue resistance, high usable strength, and excellent
resistance to hydrogen permeation into optical fibers.
Single Polarization Fiber
Provides single polarization and high extinction ratio for use in industrial
and sensor applications
Photonic Band Gap Fiber
Hollow-core, all-silica micro-structured fiber providing high reliability for
such applications as aerospace, fiber lasers, and sensor applications
Other Specialty Fibers
Corning continually extends its product spectrum by developing highly
specialized, application-specific fiber solutions.
High Temperature/Harsh Environment Fiber
Corning's specially designed hermetic layer provides a protective barrier to
help shield the glass from exposure to hydrogen, water, and corrosive
chemicals. It extends the lifetime of fiber by stopping fiber fatigue.
