Global Energy Management

We have a long-term view of energy conservation that includes the environmentally responsible and cost-effective use of energy in our facilities around the world.

Aggressively Investing in Energy Efficiency

The Global Energy Management (GEM) program strategically manages Corning's global energy usage with consideration to energy productivity, supply reliability, and environmental impact. Our mission is to become world-class in the way we purchase and use energy by focusing on key areas:

  • Ensuring reliable energy supply
  • Reducing consumption of energy when possible
  • Achieving positive ROI
  • Utilizing “greener” energy when possible
  • Maintaining efficient and productive buildings
  • Improving energy productivity
  • Minimizing carbon risk

“For more than 10 years, Corning’s energy management teams have increased the company’s energy efficiency by 30.8 percent,” said Dr. David Morse, Corning’s executive vice president and chief technology officer. “We will continue to invest in these energy-reduction efforts, while assessing renewable energy sources to help make Corning a greener and more energy-efficient company. We have taken a major step in this direction by entering a 25-year agreement to purchase electricity from Duke Energy Renewables’ new solar installation in Conetoe, North Carolina, which will supply enough clean energy to the electric grid to equal the approximate annual usage of our Harrodsburg, Kentucky, plant.”

Due to its efforts, GEM has also helped Corning achieve ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year status every year since 2014. In addition, several Corning plants have achieved ENERGY STAR® Challenge for Industry recognition. Learn more about Corning's valued relationship with ENERGY STAR.
