50 years of setting the standards for clean-air technologies

The connection between the quality of the air we breathe and our overall health and life expectancy is well established. But comparisons of air quality globally show stark differences from region to region and city to city.

About 4 million lives are still lost per year from poor air quality caused by fine particulate pollution, and a 2020 nationwide Harvard study showed that people who live in regions with high levels of air pollution are more likely to die from COVID-19 than people who live in less polluted areas.

While vehicles in well-regulated markets have made huge strides in cleaning up their tailpipes, vehicle emissions are still a contributor to global warming and poor air quality. As a result, governments around the world continue tightening emissions standards and automotive suppliers continue to innovate solutions for the zero-impact vehicles the world needs.

With the right clean-air technology in place, tailpipe emissions like NOx and particulates up to 10nm can be virtually eliminated. Here at Corning, we are proud of the role our filters and substrates for emissions control play in enabling cleaner air worldwide.
