Ernst & Young
Corning's fiber-optic cabling systems make networking fast, easy and flexible for
Ernst & Young.
The Challenge
Ernst & Young, one of Europe’s largest auditing and consulting firms, was looking for a way to consolidate three of its European data centers into one central location to save costs and increase the flexibility of its information technology infrastructure. The company chose TelecityGroup in Frankfurt, Germany, to co-locate the centers. But with the consolidation came the need for a fast, easy networking solution that could support the extensive infrastructure and equipment requirements of the three facilities. The project also needed to be completed within a very tight timetable.
The Breakthrough
To meet this challenge, Ernst & Young worked with Corning to plan and install a fiber optic cabling solution for the consolidated data center. Utilizing its Plug and Play™ system, a pre-terminated,
optical-fiber and copper-cabling system, Corning optimized the assembly of Ernst & Young’s network infrastructure in the structured data-center environment. The modular components that make up the Plug and Play system were simple to configure and quickly installed, connected, and put into operation. The innovative wiring of the fiberoptic modules also prevented polarity problems and ensured compatibility, high performance, and consistent quality throughout the system.
The Impact
In spite of the tight timetable, Ernst & Young was able to successfully consolidate three of its European data centers, setting up the entire network in a single facility. The company is now
profiting from the high flexibility and cost advantages of the co-location model. With the single facility, the entire system of hardware, software, data, and applications is easier to manage and control. Additional branches of Ernst & Young will outsource their data centers as well, linking them to the information technology infrastructure installed by Corning in the TelecityGroup facility. Corning will continue to serve as the preferred cabling partner on future consolidations.
